This is a very old dresser box - metal in construction and has been painted or (antiqued) in an ivory/beige color. Most of the paint is in good shape except around the hinges in the back. Inside is a deep purple velvet. Very pretty design featuring acanthus leaves and vines. A ladies " Vanity" - A private place to ponder, play, reflect and dream. A place to try out a new hairstyle, perfume or expression. Beautiful dresser and vanity containers or boxes were considered a necessity for a ladies boudoir. They were used not only for powder, but for hair clippings, small trinkets, rings and scent pomanders. They were made of glass, porcelain and metals - sometimes gold or sterling. Handpainted, carved or set with lavish stones they have been a part of a woman's vanity through the ages and into more modern times and designs.
