Item Description:

Super nice rendetion of the Native American Squash Blossom Necklace is done by ART.  The pendant {called "naja") is attached to a beaded chain. The naja was picked up by the Native Americans from the Spanish horse bridles. Other design elements date back to the 1500's and the Moors.  The Navajo were the first to use the necklace in their ceremonies and it has passed down for generations. There are a lot of interesting stories and legends about this type of necklace on the internet - fascinating reading.  Back to this necklace !  It is silvertone and measures 24" with a foldover clasp at the end.  List on our site are also matching earrings. Either use the search for art or squash blossom to locate them.  We'll do a combined discount if you buy both !

The Indians of Southwest America learned silversmithing from the Mexicans.  Native American jewelry combines cultural, religious and the beauty of nature to produce some of the most beautiful silver jewelry in the world.  Many tribes produced jewelry and each reflected their own personal culture. Choctaw, Seneca and Iroquois were among the earliest artists and were joined by the Navajo, Hopi and Zuni in the 20th century.  One of the best resouces I have found is "Silver Jewelry Identification and Value Guide" by Fred Rezazadeh and Hallmarks of the Southwest by Barton Wright. We try to be as correct as possible in identifying items, but this is a vast artistic culture and we're always learning !  Always buy Native American jewelry from a reputable dealer .
