This is a beautifully done peacock in sterling silver marked 925. Size is about 3" long. Very nice detail and an asset to any fashion ! The peacock was a favorite subject for art and jewelry in the Art Nouveau period. It was thought to be a symbol of light over darkness, the spreading of the tail representing the universe. Adversely, the peacock is said to be a symbol of pride and vanity mostly because of the strutting behavior at mating time. Whichever you believe, this beautiful bird brings a gorgeous blending of colors for us all to enjoy ! |
