Panther hinged bangle bracelet and earrings set date from the 1980s when the Wallis Simpson Collection was being auctioned. The panther began its identification with Cartier in 1914 and upon the 1987 sale of the Wallis Simpson Collection by Sotheby's, many costume jewelery designers took their cue as so many fashionable women desired this exotic look in precious and costume jewels. Notable 20th Century costume jewelry designers like Ciner and Kenneth J. Lane used this theme for panther jewelry motifs that were all the rage. Many sets, like this unsigned one, were sought after and coveted by women of good taste. This one has survived in Excellent Condition and speaks to the high quality of costume jewelry designs and craftsmanship of the time.
The bracelet is a hinged bangle to fits close to the wrist. It has an inner dimension of approximately 2 x 2" and opens with a push button and hinge. The widest width of the central focus is approximately 5/8" wide. The bracelet is domed and textured with angled curves. The matching ear clips measure approximately 3/4 x 5/8" with sturdy and secure ear clips that retain their original tension. Although this set is unsigned, it features quality crystal rhinestones and heavy plating with lovely, three-dimensional treatment of the bracelet and panther heads. A wonderful, classic and adored motif, these big cats have a classic sophistication that remains a standard in jewelry today. (#45975-PantherSet5)
