These beads came from a huge collection of buttons and beads and they were mixed in with the amber beads. I tested them (salt water) and they don't test out to be amber. However, they did test positive for bakelite. They are translucent deep red with a darker edge and single hole in the center. All have graduated thickness. You are buying them for whatever they are and definitely vintage.
Bead FAQ - Beads have been used for ornamentation and currency since before recorded history. Semi precious earthstones are still considered among the most treasured of mother nature's gifts. Following are some terms you may see used in our descriptions.
Graduated - Move down in size, usually front to back * Opaque - Solid, unable to see through. * Translucent - Can be clear to mottled. You can see through the bead.
Extender Chain - Additional usually matching chain at the back to add length (we sell these)
Comp.-Composition, usually meaning plastic or other man made unidentifiable material. We'll specify if we know it is lucite or bakelite.

Most of our items are vintage unless we tell you otherwise. Therefore expect them to be in "Vintage" condition. This means normal wear and some softening of stone sparkle is to be expected. If either is in excess we will note it in our description. We do not thoroughly clean our items, leaving that to the preferences of the buyer, and if there are any serious problems, flaws or noticeable repairs, we will always try to note it in the description. Realizing that nothing can replace a "hands-on" inspection of an item, if you are not satisfied with your purchase for any reason, we will always accept returns or otherwise try to make you a satisfied customer. Our return policy can be found at the top of each item page.
