Victorian Valentine known as a "Sentimental Book" featuring eight inner pages, decorated and with verse on heavier than normal card stock held together by a delicate twisted cord. This lovely Valentine Sentimental Book is entitled "Echoes of Love" on its face with the inner title page featuring vibrantly colored yellow and purple pansies entitled "An old Old Story".Click here to see the inner title page. The cover features a doll-faced little girl picking flowers and holding them in her pinafore. There are roses and violets as well as embossed white ivy with scrolls and gold accents on the raised embossing around the edges. Next there are two pages of verse Click here to see the first two pages of verse. and then the center pages are decorated with pansies as well as verse. Following are another two pages of verse Click here to see the final two pages of verse. and the final inner page is decorated with pansies again.Click here to see the final page. The reverse of the card is signed in pencil "Arthur L." and dated. We are uncertain as to whether the date is 1900, 1903 or 1908, but the card is certainly Victorian.Click here to see the reverse of the Valentine. There is also a fancy embossed envelope with cancelled two cent stamp which is appropriate to the period. This lovely Valentine relic, although somewhat soiled from the years, is in remarkable condition with only the tiniest edge nick to the point at the bottom right corner that is reflected on the back cover as well...hardly worth mentioning considering the age of this piece. The colors are vibrant and the face of the little girl on the front is very detailed and lifelike. The envelope, although soiled and torn at the back from its original opening is very much intact and the lovely embossing is so nostalgic.
