1951 Carl Schurz High School Class Ring 10K Spinel Sz 634
Carl Schurz High School 1951 class ring is a stunning example of Art Deco design jewelry, with two blue spinel rectangular inlays that flash cobalt blue in the most attractive way. The ring is a stunning stepped design that is authentic to the Art Deco period when the school first began.
Even though the ring dates to the Mid-Century Modern era, the school building was designed in 1910, so we can understand why the design of the rings dates circa the Art Deco period. The school building became a landmark in 1979 for its iconic combination of the Prairie and Chicago Schools of architecture. There was an emphasis on design and the arts at this school at its inception that it maintains even today.
The ring is in Excellent Condition. It is signed, "Spies" for George Spies Industries, Inc. of Chicago with 10K on the inside of the shank. The ring is a Size 6-3/4, but it can be sized because it is genuine 10K gold. We tested the spinel on our Gemlogis machine and it is definitely blue spinel, although probably man made. It weighs 5.8 grams.
One of the most attractive Art Deco designs in class rings we have seen.
