Vintage Whitney Made Valentine is a "double stack" Valentine with three layers, the second layer of which appears to be a cut-out of another Whitney Made Valentine overlaid with paper lace and die-cuts. The central medallion features a school boy at a desk with a blackboard behind him, an ink bottle at his desk and a girl holding a small chalkboard beside him. The base Valentine has brightly colored poppies and gold, black, cream and coral designs. The second "stack" features intricate gold embossed hearts with lilacs, blue and white forge-me-nots. The heart-shaped paper lace is appointed with die-cuts of a Cupid mailman with a mail pouch and Valentine cards, a pink and white hibiscus and a darling child with pointed hat and apples. The inside verse reads, "For My Valentine/I've waited for a long, long time,/For a chance to say,/'Oh! will you by MY VALENTINE/To-day and everyday?'" The original paper accordians raise each section. This lovely The Valentine is large and measures approximately 7 x 6-3/4". It is in Very Good/Excellent Condition with a pristine face that has only one slight bend at the central bottom point. There are some creases to the points along the inside right edge and a slight edge bend along 1/8" on the edge of the left side. The Valentine is signed "Whitney Made, Worcester Mass., Made in U.S.A." on the reverse and hand signed in pencil "From Katheryn Donat, Valentine Day 1927." A really lovely example of a large, Whitney Made Vintage Valentine.
