               FRIENDS AND LOVERS.  ENGRAVED WHITE ONYX CARVED WITH A FIGURE
              OF VENUS WAS A MEDIEVAL CHARM FOR BEAUTY AND STRENGTH.

                                HAVE A MORE UNIFORM APPEARANCE.

OPAL  *PRECIOUS STONE WITH BEAUTIFUL MULTICOLORED IRIDESCENCE.
              OPAL IS QUARTZ WITH SILICA PARTICLES AND WATER WHICH DEFRACT THE
              LIGHT AND GIVE IT THE MANY FLASHING OLORS.  THE COLORS RATE FROM
              BLACK  AND BLUE TO GREENS, BROWNS,RED AND WHITE. FIRE OPALS COME
              FROM MEXICO.THE OPAL'S STRUCTURE MAKE IT VERY FRAGILE AND  SUSCEPTIBLE
             TO CHANGE OF TEMPERATURE AND HUMIDITY. THE OPAL IS
             THE GEMSTONE OF LIBRA AND SUPPOSEDLY NOT LUCKY FOR ANYONE BUT
             THE LIBRA. OTHERS CONSIDER IT A LUCKY STONE FOR PERSONS
             ENTERING LIFE WITH THEIR SUN IN LEO, LIBRA OR AQUARIUS.
            MEDICINALLY OPALS WERE THOUGHT TO STRENGTHEN EYE SIGHT AND
            MEMORY. IT WAS ALSO CONSIDERED TO PROTECT FROM CHOLERA AND
            KIDNEY PROBLEMS.  IT WAS ALSO A PROTECTOR FROM LIGHTENING.

OPAL, BOULDER  *CLEAR WATER OPAL WITH BRILLIANT PLAY OF COLORS AND A DARK BROWN
                                   MATRIX. IT WAS FORMED WHEN SILICA STEAM WAS FORCED INTO THE CRACKS
                                  OF BOULDERS AND THEN MINERALIZED FOR AGES.  FOUND IN VARYING SHADES
                                  BUT USUALLY WITH THE IRON BROWN MATRIX AND COLOR PLAY.

OPAL, MEXICAN  *NAMED FOR THE BRILLIANT RED/ORANGE COLOR WHICH IS DUE TO THE PRESENCE
                                  OF IRON OXIDE. IT IS MINED IN MEXICO AND IS SOFTER AND LIGHTER THAN OTHER
                                  OPALS. THE MEXICAN FIRE OPALS TEND TO BE MORE SINGLE COLOR THAN OTHER
                                  OPALS, NOT HAVING THE "PLAY" OF LIGHT WITHIN. THIS IS THE ONLY TYPE OF OPAL
                                  THAT CAN BE FACET CUT.

OPALINE  *ANY TYPE OF WHITE OPALESCENCE IN GLASS
