This is a beautiful Victorian green glass powder jar - all handpainted on the top in a floral design. This has brass fittings around the edges, clasp and hinged back. The bottom is rounded and slightly curved to give it that "pillow" look. It measures 3-1/2" wide x 2-1/2" deep. Very slight wear to the painting on the top considering the age. A ladies " Vanity" - A private place to ponder, play, reflect and dream. A place to try out a new hairstyle, perfume or expression. Beautiful dresser and vanity containers or boxes were considered a necessity for a ladies boudoir. They were used not only for powder, but for hair clippings, small trinkets, rings and scent pomanders. They were made of glass, porcelain and metals - sometimes gold or sterling. Handpainted, carved or set with lavish stones they have been a part of a woman's vanity through the ages and into more modern times and designs.
