Item Description:

The original of this painting was done in 1880's and soon thereafter the prints.  Twenty years later more prints were done to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Anheuser Busch.  I'm not sure of the date of this print.  If it is older then you are getting a real bargain, but I suspect it is a reproduction done in the 60's or 70's.

This colored and framed print depicting the grizzly battle between General Custer's troops and Indian warriors at Little Big Horn. The frame is oak and with a plexiglas protector.  The shadows you see in the first photo are caused by the plexiglas refection and the lithograph has no imperfections and little discoloration.

Custer is featured at center waving a saber and dressed in fringed buckskin. The remaining cavalry officers (except for his brother Tom) are dressed in military uniform. Indians are armed with scalping knives, tomahawks, clubs, spears and rifles. Dead of both parties appear in foreground, with several being identified in the bottom margin.

Custer's medals and banners are in lower left margin. Mounted Indian poses beside a monument in lower right margin. Text below image advertises Anheuser-Busch Brewing Assn.

 Cassily Adams (1843 - 1921), artist and Otto Becker (1854 - 1945), lithographer.

Custer's Last Fight

This print is probably the best known visual interpretation of the battle of the Little Big Horn, and, in fact, may be one of the best known images in American art due to the wide distribution of this print. Adams painted his version of Custer's last stand in the 1880s, and it hung in a St. Louis saloon, which was acquired by the Anheuser-Busch brewing company. Anheuser-Busch then produced a lithographic print of the painting and gave prints to their distributors, bars, and other outlets. Through its display, it became widely known to diverse audiences.
