Item Description: |
||
| Traditional Zulu Baskets are tightly hand-woven, using a coil weave, with materials found in native South Africa . These bulb-shaped containers are ceremoniously used to serve beer. When the beer is poured into the basket, the palm and grass swell to create a water-tight vessel. The woven patterns form symbols which tell stories. For example, a diamond pattern would represent the birth of a new baby. |
