Item Description:

You most likely will be the only flyer in the airport with a carry-on "Vintage Genuine Walrus" luggage suitcase.

The patent number is 1,862,621, which means 1932 or early 1930's.

The piece is in unbelievable condition (see below).   The exterior is excellent, with just a little wear on one of the straps as it wraps around the luggage.   The interior, which we believe to be ostrich, but could stand corrected, is almost like new, with one snap broken and missing, but the other snaps and straps are fine.  This one missing snap does not affect the securing as the opposite snap is intact and fine.

Stamped on the botton of the piece is " 26 Genuine Walrus 508".  The initials G.H.J are stamped in gold under the handle.  This gold tint could be removed and you would barely notice the initials in the grain.  On the inner latches is stamped USA 1.862.621.

When our customers have viewed this piece in the store,  they are aghast at the fine condition and feel of the grain.

The below is taken from a leather website and explains why this piece is in such excellent contion.

Why are seal and walrus long wearing leathers?
"Both seal and walrus are long wearing leathers. The hides to begin with are extremely oily. After tanning they absorb more of the fat liquor than cowhides. The result is that they will not dry out so quickly. Once leather dries out, it quickly deteriorates and becomes useless. The oily condition of seal and walrus thus lengthens their term of service. The term walrus leather when used in the luggage industry is generally regarded in the trade as being genuine sealskin leather on which a simulation of walrus grain has been embossed."
