Item Description:
This is a very nice enamel pin, probably a souvenir or medal from the Ski School. It measures approximately 1 1/2" in diameter. It is done in rich colors of enamel~~red, green & gold on a goldtone mounting. It has the old type pin / medal closure which functions well. I can see nothing wrong with the pin except a small dot under the word "School" but it appears to be under the enamel. My research shows that Berchtesgaden is a municipality in the German Bavarian Alps. It is located near the border with Austria, south of Salzburg and southeast of Munich. With a ski resort on the edge of the Berchtesgaden National Park, and with a history entwined with some of Europe's darkest days, the Berchtesgaden area is a mix of beautiful scenery and disturbing memories. Visible from the ski area is the infamous "Eagle's Nest" - Hitler's mountain refuge in the Second World War.
