In the frozen sourthern lands where few humans dare to venture, hundreds of thousands of penguins live and prosper. These flightless birds are well adapted to the Antarctic environment. The wings work well as paddles, helping the penguin go after the fish and shell fish that make up its diet. Penguins' feathers are small and hard, almost like scales, and these protect the birds from the vicious cold of the ocean and the winter storms. Penguins have few natural enemies -- only the leopard seal, McCormick's skua -- and man. This is the Cyrus Noble "The Penguin Family," second in a series of ceramic works entitled "Animals of the Sea." All the ceramics in this series are hand-painted and have been produced from original sculptures in limited numbers. Each sculpture comes with a hand-routed teak base, felt padded to protect furniture. This piece is numbered 1607 of 4994 limited edition. Decanter is empty, we have box and inside liner. Decanter is in excellent condition. |
