Rather large and heavy black bronze statue (bust) After Jean-Antoine Houdon, French (1741-1828). This bronze weighs 18 pounds and measures 15 inches high, 9 inches wide and 6 inches deep.
The Top Hat and Bow Tie are very prominient in this well detailed black bronze. Houdon is well known for his scupltures of Voltaire, Diana Goddess of the Hunt, George Washington, Lafayette and paintings of Ben Franklin who he met when Frankling was ambassador to France. Many of Houdon's original pieces are in Museums throughout the world.
This bronze was most likely done in the 1950's, but could even be earlier in the 1900's. The detail is excellent and this piece is a great copy of the original which of course would sell in the thousands of dollars. Also, further down is a link to a short bio of Jean-Antoine Houton.
