The boxes feature some of the most intricate miniature paintings with varying themes including portraits, fairy tales, country-life, landscapes and art masterpieces. The boxes get their names from the many layers of lacquer that are applied to both the inside and outside of the boxes. It can take six to eight weeks to craft a box out of papier mache. This material can withstand changes in atmospheric conditions and avoid cracking. The paintings on the boxes bring the real personal value to each individually painted box. It takes hours and hours of time and patience to create one of these exquisite paintings on a box.” Enjoy! Also, see below the web page for Creation of a Russian Lacquer Box. |
