Item Description:
These beautiful necklaces originated with the Navajo indians and is thought that the design came from the ornaments of the bridles worn by the horses of the Spanish conquistadors. This necklace is a gorgeous replica and features silvertone findings with simulated turquoise stones. This one is vintage but there is no manufacturers marking. The necklace is 24" single strand with a 2" pendant. You can read more about the style of necklace at http://www.americana.net/jewelry_squash_blossom_article.html
The Indians of Southwest America learned silversmithing from the Mexicans. Native American jewelry combines cultural, religious and the beauty of nature to produce some of the most beautiful silver jewelry in the world. Many tribes produced jewelry and each reflected their own personal culture. Choctaw, Seneca and Iroquois were among the earliest artists and were joined by the Navajo, Hopi and Zuni in the 20th century. One of the best resouces I have found is "Silver Jewelry Identification and Value Guide" by Fred Rezazadeh. Always buy Native American jewelry from a reputable dealer .
