A very nice oil painting of the Pigeon Point Lighthouse just north of Santa Cruz on the California coast.
My feeling is that this was a somewhat well known artist in the 1930's, but there is no signature, and the research so far has not turned up a name. It was purchased, along with another oil painting entitled "Forgotten" by the same artist..
The purchaser of this oil paid $25 for this painting in 1934. That would be the equivalent of approximately $500 today, and probably more as that was of course depression time when few had $25 to spend on an oil painting.
The painting is on board and very well done with light streaming from the lighthouse, smoke from a nearby house and a sailing ship off the coast. No smoke damage or other damage to the oil.
Very nice 1920's-30's gold "deco-type" frame.
If by chance you recognize this artist I would be very greatful to know his or her name. Our email address is below.
