This stunningly tailored line by Schiaparelli was done in the 1950s. In our opinion, this design from the futuristic and pace-setting designer, Elsa Schiaparelli, speaks to the interest in atomic and space-themed jewelry of the period. Two necklaces and a pair of earrings from this group are featured in "European Designer Jewelry" by Ginger Moro on Page 85. This set features a goldtone fluted pendant ball encircled by a raised silvertone pave strip across the center. The ball appears to hang from a rhinestone pave ring and trails a ribbon...a meteor perhaps? The pin measures 2-1/2 x 1-1/2 and bears no signature as is often the case with Schiaparelli designs although it is clearly a match to the signed earrings. The matching domed clip earrings measure approximately 1-1/8" round and one is signed "Schiaparelli" in script on the clip in the usual manner. This particular set displays the genius of Elsa Schiaparelli's designs. It is as fashionable and timeless as it was in the 1950s. Wear this set with pride anywhere, anytime, it is a classic example of Schiaparelli, one of the premiere names in costume jewelry history, that will never be out of place.
