Summertime Special Red Coral Necklace

This is a very lovely red coral fragment necklace often called "sprig" strings - it is genuine coral, not plastic. It is vintage but the stringing seems in good condition. Length is 16" but could easily be lengthened by use of an extender chain or a few O-rings. Coral jewelry always seems to "blossom" in the summertime although it is worn year-round.

Coral was thought to protect the wearer, especially children, against evil. Victorian children often wore tiny coral rings or necklaces to ensure their safety. Coral was also throught to cure evils and problems with the mind.

There are other colors of coral than red - pink, black and white are also popular.
