These pin trays were handpainted by L. Armstrong in West Virginia. Her pieces were always a find a local craft fairs, shops and boutiques. Her use of soft colors and intricate detail make them very desirable. There are 3 of these - one features a beige border with green and gold leaves 4-1/2"; one has blue grapes and white starflowers 4" diameter and the other measures 3 x 5" and features pale pink roses, half open and bud on a creamy ivory and blue shaded background. All are in excellent condition. A ladies " Vanity" - A private place to ponder, play, reflect and dream. A place to try out a new hairstyle, perfume or expression. Beautiful dresser and vanity containers or boxes were considered a necessity for a ladies boudoir. They were used not only for powder, but for hair clippings, small trinkets, rings and scent pomanders. They were made of glass, porcelain and metals - sometimes gold or sterling. Handpainted, carved or set with lavish stones they have been a part of a woman's vanity through the ages and into more modern times and designs.
