Item Description: |
||
| Made in South Africa, the Zulu clay pots were assigned different names depending on their size. Thin coils of clay were pressed together and the joints were filled in. After a first firing, a second took place; this time the pot was covered with vegetable matter and emerged blackened. Three basic kinds of decoration are seen: indented, incised, and in relief through the addition of small lumps of clay called amasumpa. | ||
