Smithsonian 1920 "Joan" Maid-of-Honor Doll. This is the last of the four doll series for the 150th Anniversary of the Smithsonian on our web site. The dress on this doll represents a garment which was worn by a Maid-of-Honor at a wedding in 1920's. The dress is of pink satin trimmed with sliver lace and is the only short dress in the four doll collection. Gathered cap sleeves are t rimmed with tiny rose buds. The doll wears a "combination" -- a typical undergarment of the period. Her hair is gently arranged as women wore it before th bob became poplular. she wears pealrs and carries a beautiful bouquet with roses and ribbon streamers. Her sculpted shoes are sliver leather with low heels and button straps. The eyes are hand painted. This doll is mint in the box with hang-tag, but the booklet is missing so we reduced the price $10. This doll is one of four issued in observance of the 150th Anniversary of the Smithsonian Institution. Each doll has been individually created by a Richmond, Virginia sculptor to represent ladies wearing replicas of historic gowns in the collection of the National Museum of American History. Under the supervision of Museum curators, recreations of the full sized dresses have been painstakingly designed and made in Richmond by the United State Historical Society. Each doll is beautifully packaged and is accompanied by a booklet describing the fashion of her time, a hang-tag and a stand.
