| Poison ring of sterling silver and amethyst is a vintage Mexican sterling piece that probably dates to the 1960s. The amethyst cabochon on the top of the ring is a lid on a hinge that opens to reveal a secret internal compartment for storing pills or poison. These are sometimes referred to as Borgia rings going back to the 1500s when ruling families battled their foes by poisoning their drinks. This sterling silver vintage and amethyst cabochon poison ring is adjustable and is signed “JPC Taxco Mexico .925” and has the Eagle Stamp 3. on the shank. It is in Very Good/Excellent Condition with the shank slightly out of round. The amethyst cabochon is a very interesting stone as it appears to have some internal brown shading to it. We believe it is natural to the stone as amethyst belongs to the quartz family and is often found mixed with topaz or citrine. We think you will enjoy wearing this relic of the “hippie days” when Ringo Starr made wearing a ring on each finger a fashion must and these were very popular.
